#MMN_USSD system to inform on migration choices

Banjul, Accra
Germany
Project description

The #MMN _migrant media project uses the USSD system to provide people in Ghana & The Gambia who are thinking about migration to get informed. The system is important as it informs free of charge, on regular phones without internet and in a manner which is well known throughout the country.

The goal of the project is to use digital media to curb irregular migration among young people by exposing them to regular and irregular migration issues before they travel.

General information on the USSD System:

Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) is also referred to as Quick Codes. The protocol is used by cellphones to communicate with their service provider’s computers via text messages. Customers get easy access to pre-configured services and the messages are up to 182 alphanumeric characters long. The codes are a combination of numbers, hashtag # and star *.

Please feel free to inform yourself on our USSD system and give feedback.
