We are Europe! members consider the current EU as a transitional period. Why? Because 27 constantly changing national governments cannot create permanently stable structures. Especially for severe crises, this design is not suitable. Our members therefore believe that the final Union must be as democratically anchored in its citizenry as it already is in its member states. Only then can it muster the strength to assert itself in the long term in a world full of conflict. In one sentence: We are heading for the European Union of Citizens.

We are Europe! was founded in 2012 in Düsseldorf as a non-profit association. It has inspired people for the European idea in countless discussion events, many rallies and eight trips across the continent. One focus of our work so far has been our lobbying for a European association statute. Since our participation in the 2013 Maidan uprisings in Kyiv, the development in Ukraine has been a particular area of concern for us.
